PROJECTS | Community Development

Community Development - This encompasses all the activities that go towards empowering the community to take ownership of the challenges that they face.
It includes:

Youth Development - Beautiful Gate runs ongoing youth development activities for teenagers in the Crossroads and Philippi areas. These groups aim to give the youth skills and knowledge to face the many challenges in their lives and communities. The youth learn and perform dramas, play sports, do life-skills programmes and actively “give back” to their own community through community clean-up days, assisting in running holiday clubs for younger kids, etc.

Community Resource Centre - The Centre was launched on 9 June 2010 on the realization that there was great need for information among youth, families and local organisations. The aim of the centre is to provide beneficiaries with more opportunities thus building more capacity and empowering them. The facility consists of an IT centre and a library which has a catalogue of informational resources such as spiritual, vocational, employment and social services.

Strengthening families - A stable family is an important indicator of a healthy community. One way of dealing with the vulnerability of children is to make families stronger. Our initiatives include providing access to grants, short term food relief, advice and referrals, for 240 families each year to help them stay together and find long-term solutions.
