Bringing hope to the hopeless
The HIV/AIDS pandemic has continued to wreak havoc in our communities at alarming levels. Whereas the scourge has claimed the lives of a number of bread winners, many more people are still living with the virus in the community. Worse still, many children have been forced to turn to the streets for a living due to the loss of one or both their parents.
Apart from bringing hope and a future to orphans and vulnerable children in the area by providing them quality and affordable education, we also endeavour to provide practical support to their families as well.
From time to time we dispatch volunteers into the community to show love and compassion to the aged and people living with HIV/AIDS by cleaning their homes, sweeping their yards, trimming bushes and digging pit-latrines. We also provide counseling and pray for people afflicted by TB and HIV/AIDS.
From a 2 bed-roomed house to a real school
In 2005 Beautiful Gate Zambia acquired land for the construction of a school. The number of children enrolled in our school had been swelling over the years thereby outgrowing the two bed-roomed house facility that we were using as a school.
This situation presented us an anomalous challenge to find bigger premises if we were able to meet the educational needs of the many orphans and vulnerable in our community. No sooner we acquired the land the later construction works begun, thanks to generous donations and contributions from well-wishers!
Currently about 300 children are being offered quality and affordable education at the newly built school.
The school now boasts of a play park, playing field and volleyball pitch. Kids from the school and the surrounding compound are now able to pass their leisure time constructively as opposed to frequenting the rubbish dumps.
Beautiful Gate Rescues some street kids
The problem of street kids is slowly becoming a nightmare for the authorities. As the situation daily jumps from bad to worse, government is fast running out of ideas and resources to address this vexing problem.
Recently Beautiful Gate has joined forces with the other stake holders to help find lasting solutions to this problem. Currently we are providing residential care to 4 children. Two of these children have since been enrolled in the school while the others are undergoing vocational training.
Apart from this we have also managed to “rescue”15 children from the streets. These have since been reunited with their beloved families or connected to organizations providing residential care.
Providing relief to HIV/AIDS infected people:
In order of for us to accomplish our goal of providing practical support people living with HIV/AIDS, Beautiful Gate Zambia has in the past disbursed small grants to 4 women of Robert compound for them to start small businesses. These women are now proud owners of small “tuntembas” (stalls). In addition to this 10 women living with HIV/AIDS are currently undergoing training in tailoring and knitting. It is hoped that upon graduating these women will be able to use their skills to make ends meet.
